How long do drugs stay positive in your system ?

The amount of time drugs stay in the body depends on many factors such as, the amount of the drug taken, its strength, purity, the body weight of the person being tested and rate of metabolism, and whether they are a casual user or a long term user.

Cut offs for onsite drug testing kits are brand specific and as a guide the window period for drug detection using saliva or oral fluid drug test are shorter than comparable urine drug test.

As a rough guideline most drugs  (excluding cannabis will be detectable on a urine drug test for up to 3-4 days) and on a saliva drug test for up to a maximum of 72 hours (some saliva tests are only up to 24 hours)

Cannabis can be detected in some individuals on a urine drug test for up to 28-30 days (depends on individual useage and body fat composition as Cannabis metabolites stored in body fat)

This is a frequent question regarding urine drug testing as Cannabis stays in the system much longer than other drugs, and can still be detected on a urine drug test for up 30 days in some individuals.

After a one off Cannabis use Cannabis will have cleared the system and not be detectable in most peoples urine sample by about 5-7 days. However this is not always so as Cannabis clearance is affected by many factors including the individuals fat levels. As Cannabis can be stored in the body in fat a leaner individual will clear Cannabis from their system faster than an obese individual.

What other factors affect how quickly Cannabis clears from the system ?

• body fat
• total body mass
• frequency of use
• strength of Cannabis used eg Cannabis resin & skunk contains more of the active THC
• duration of Cannabis use

Q) Is testing for drugs difficult and does it work ?

A) Drug testing is an easy and accurate method of detecting drug misuse.

Q) How can I screen for drugs of abuse & what do I do with the results ?

A) Most drugs can be screened for using either saliva or urine. These tests are immediate with results in under 10 minutes on-site. Confirmation samples can then be sent for laboratory analysis on positive samples. Negative samples are not usually followed as the accuracy of this biotech is very good.

Q) How effective are skin wipes for testing for drugs ?

A) Skin wipes are less available and have only been marketed recently, so their effectiveness and selectivity remains to be proven clinically.

Q) Can blood be tested for drugs ?

A) Blood testing is only used for a limited range of drugs and is not available for business or private use.

Q) Is hair testing for drugs available ?

A) Hair testing looks back up to 3 months but is lab based and expensive per screen. Mostly this makes urine and saliva the first choice screening method.

Heavy, or one off / occasional use ?

Cannabis is fat soluble, so over sustained regular use it is deposited around the body and can take several weeks, too a month to be excreted. In practice this only occurs in heavy regular consumers of cannabis, usually the concentrated forms such as skunt, and for most irreglular or occassioanl users THC will be excreted much quicker.

Most instant saliva drug tests will only detect THC for only 24 hrs after use. Most Cannabis urine drug tests will detect use for between 3 and 5 days after use.

The most sensitive saliva test currently available is the Oraline IV saliva drug test at 4ng/ml
All urine instant tests cut off at 50ng/ml while lab confimations normally test to just 15ng/ml

Instant urine tests will mainly detect for 3-5 days after light use. For tests to remain positive longer than 5 days suggest either heavy previous use, or re-exposure.
